Afework Mulugeta

Afework Mulugeta is a Professor at the School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences of Mekelle University. Currently, he is serving as the Coordinator of the PhD Program, School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, Mekelle University; Editor-in-Chief of the East African Journal of Health Sciences (East Afr J Health Sci) and Country lead of the multi-country ECLIPSE project.

Afework is highly involved in advising MPH and PhD students from Mekelle University and various universities in Ethiopia. Apart from his teaching and community service responsibilities, he has made significant contributions to the advancement of public health/nutrition research in Ethiopia with a continued national and international funding. As an output to his teaching, research and community services, he has authored and co-authored more than 100 papers in peer reviewed journals. Moreover, his demonstrated experience of working in the Ethiopian context and dedication to improving his research skill in public health/nutrition and experience in leading, administering and conducting nationally and internationally funded research projects has significantly contributed towards his international nomination as the recipient of national and international awards like the 2017 Rising Star Alumni Award from Oklahoma State University, USA. Last but not least, Afework is of the strong conviction that he will bring his longtime experiences of public health research and project leadership to the multi-country and multi-disciplinary ECLIPSE programme to encourage continuous learning and continuous improvement; to increase the effectiveness, communication and teamwork; to ensure project outputs, outcomes and impact are achieved; and all aspects of the ECLIPSE project are planned, implemented, monitored and delivered on time, within the allotted budget and of defined quality.
